The Meredith Department of Public Works consists of four divisions:
BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS DIVISION:
Is in charge of issuing FACILITY USE PERMITS for the use of any of the following town properties as well as being responsible for the regular maintenance, repairs and regular trash pickup for these facilities: Hesky Park, and Sign Hesky Park BBQ Pit, Hesky Park Bandstand, Gazebo on Boardwalk (behind Church Landing), Scenic Park, Boardwalk & Town Docks, Clough Park,Community Park on Main Street All parking lots including: Town Docks Parking Lot, Water Street, High Street, Plymouth Street Lots & Municipal Lot on Rt 3 next to Aubuchon Hardware.
PW Facility Use permits for these facilities may be obtained from the Public Works Office at 413 Daniel Webster Highway. They may also be e-mailed or faxed to the requesting party to fill out and return via e-mail, fax, by mail or in person to the PW Office. Any questions about these properties and their use or to request service for repair, maintenance or vandalism issues may be directed to the Public Works Office.

The Public Works Office is located at 413 Daniel Webster Highway (in the small white building formerly used as a church) on the right just north of Ambrose Bros. Construction office on Route 3 across from the location of the new Meredith police station. For Hesky Park Sign lettering contact the Public Works Office and request a Hesky Park Sign Permit. In addition to the above listed parks, the Buildings and Grounds Division is also responsible for the regular maintenance, repairs and trash pickup of all town buildings and grounds (Town Hall, Town Hall Annex, Rt 3 and Meredith Center Fire Stations, Water Department, Solid Waste Buildings, PW Highway Garage, Public Works Office Building, old and new Police Stations and Library, (except for the Community Center building and those grounds and beaches under the Parks and Recreation Department)

CEMETERY DIVISION:

Maintains the Meredith Village Cemetery on Route 3 as well as some of the smaller outlying cemeteries. The personnel do burials, perform year-round maintenance of stones and monuments, and keep records and sell cemetery plots. There are 88-recorded cemeteries in the Town of Meredith.
Cemetery Information
· All summer grave openings require a 48 hour advance notice
· All winter grave openings require a 72 hour advance notice
· The summer internment schedule for Meredith Village Cemetery will be April 1st through October 31st
· Winter grave openings will be based upon the following conditions:
(1) adverse weather conditions (storms and/or depth of frost);
(2) availability of equipment;
(3) town work week cycle
· The location of graves and lots available for sale within Meredith Village Cemetery will be determined by the Town Sexton to insure orderly development of the cemetery

HIGHWAY DIVISION:
responsible for road maintenance, drainage, brush cutting, road reconstruction, grading and ditching, catch basins, sweeping, sidewalk maintenance, plowing and sanding, road dust-proofing, culvert pipe installation and road and public safety signage.

SOLID WASTE DIVISION:

operates a complete recycling center and transfer station for residents of the towns of Meredith and Center Harbor (see below for complete set of rules and regulations). They also operate a recycling store where people can bring in good used items that are sold at a nominal cost, and operate a glass crushing machine that was funded in part through a grant from New Hampshire The Beautiful; the crushed glass is used for roadbeds, which not only serves to recycle the glass but also saves on gravel costs for the town.
SOLID WASTE FACILITY

· Unauthorized disposal in all areas is prohibited during unscheduled hours
· A properly authorized facility use permit must be affixed to the vehicle or a valid facility coupon must be presented in order to use the facility
· Violators will be actively prosecuted per solid waste ordinance
· Trash is subject to inspection at any time by the facility attendants
RECYCLING
The Selectmen of Center Harbor and Meredith have increased the areas recycling effort not only to reduce trash disposal costs but also to sell and reuse raw materials. A major benefit of recycling is the money saved resulting from not having to burn, landfill, or transfer these materials. Users of the Solid Waste Facility are required by local ordinances to separate recyclable materials from disposable trash as outlined below. Trash is subject to inspection at any time by the facility attendants. Failure to comply with the local recycling ordinances could result in not only the loss of facility use but also the unexpected payment of a monetary fee. You are encouraged to ask for assistance from the facility attendants. They are there to answer your questions and assist you.
RECYCLABLE MATERIALS
The following is an alphabetical list of recyclable materials that are accepted for disposal at the Solid Waste Facility:

GENERAL INFORMATION
ANNUAL CLEAN UP WEEKEND - Public Works sponsors an Annual Clean-Up Weekend for Meredith residents and taxpayers each Spring. Dates to be announced. There will be no curbside pickup; items must be transported to the Facility by the property owner/resident. Special fee schedules will apply only to the Annual Clean Up Weekend.
COOPERATION
- The Town asks each of you for your cooperation in complying with the regulations and recycling effort. The Town will not be able to please everyone with regard to permits, special needs and circumstance of regulations; however, for the benefit of all, will try to provide the best service for the most people at the least possible cost. Thank you.
CHOP SAW
- The attendants could be cutting light iron #1 and some light iron #3 to required 4' lengths by ordinance for a fee. Please see the attendant for current fees and information at the Transfer Station.
CURRENT EXCLUSION LIST
- The Town of Meredith currently does not accept the following items:
· Oil based paints and varnishes (see Household Hazardous Waste Day)
· Gas tanks
· Automobiles, engines
· Closed containers
· Barrels and drums with fluid or hazardous waste
· Scrap metals exceeding 4' lengths
· Hazardous waste (see Household Hazardous Waste Day)
FEES AND PERMITS:
Meredith and Center Harbor citizens may use the Solid Waste Facility by permit. Residential and commercial applicants from permits must be in one of the three categories listed below and have a vehicle registration in his/her name or Meredith/Center Harbor business names. Please bring in your registration when you apply for a decal.

Permits are $10.00 and will be issued only to persons qualifying on the above categories. Decals will be replaced free of charge if the original valid decal or some portion of, is returned. Please remember that if you trade in your vehicle, scrape off the decal to enable you to get the free replacement. Otherwise there will be a $10.00 fee to replace it. All permits must be affixed appropriately to the vehicle at once. The permit cannot be on a loose cardboard, plastic template, or handheld. If the decal is not affixed to the vehicle or does not agree with that vehicle's registration number, you will not be permitted to utilize the facility. Permits must be placed on the right hand passenger side of the vehicle, preferably on the front passenger side window in the lower section near or on the vent area. Please do not place decals behind mirrors. Any old or expired decals should be removed. Permits are valid for a two year period. There will be no prorating of fees or refunds for an unused portion of the two year period. Permits may be obtained through the mail; if you are a property owner, send a check for $10.00 with a copy of your vehicle registration along with a pre-addressed stamped envelope. An immediate response may be expected. Booklets of ten coupons are also available for $10.00 each and are valid for a two year period; each coupon entitles one vehicle without a facility permit (often used at rental properties) to use the facility once. Meredith property owners and residents may obtain decals and coupon booklets at the Meredith Town Office and at the Solid Waste Facility. Center Harbor property owners and residents may obtain their decals and coupons at the Center Harbor Town Office.
HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE DAY
- Household Hazardous Waste Day is usually held on the last Saturday in July. Please check with Public Works for specific date.
INFORMATION AND QUESTIONS
- If you have any questions regarding the disposal of an item or any other Solid Waste questions, please call the Solid Waste Facility at 279-8480 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
OUT OF TOWN CONTRACTORS
- If you are an out of town contractor doing business in Meredith or Center Harbor, you may purchase a special permit with a property owner's written authorization only. The permit and a copy of this authorization must accompany the vehicle depositing demolition debris at the facility. The permit is valid for one week for disposal only if the material is generated from Meredith or Center Harbor. Weekly permits are $10.00 per vehicle plus tonnage fees. The Solid Waste Fee Schedule details the rates to be charged. Recycling and separation regulations must be followed. If these regulations are violated, the supervisor may disallow, at their discretion, any use of the facility by the violating party until the problem is reviewed with the Public Works Director and Town Manager. RECYCLING STORE - The Recycling Store will accept any item that is in good condition and can be sold. The Store accepts books, small appliances, toys, bikes, etc. If you spot anything that you would like to purchase, please ask the attendant for assistance.
