Overview:

The Meredith Energy Committee is an advisory committee appointed by the Board of Selectmen. The broadly stated purpose of the committee is to promote and encourage energy conservation measures for Meredith’s residents, businesses and municipal operations.

All meetings of the committee are public meetings and are subject to the provisions of RSA 91-A. (minutes).

MEREDITH RECEIVES ENERGY RECOMMENDATIONS

The Meredith Energy Committee has received energy audit reports for five municipal buildings. The audits were conducted through a grant program funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), Energy Efficiency Conservation Block Grant Program. Audits were performed on the Town Hall, Town Hall Annex, DPW Offices, Public Library and the Water Treatment Plant. The audits evaluate the building's envelope, mechanical systems and domestic hot water. Findings and recommended energy conservation measures aimed at reducing energy consumption and energy costs are discussed in detail.

Earlier this year, the Town received an Energy Assessment of the Community Center, Police Station and the Fire Station. The purpose of this assessment was to seek opportunities to optimize energy performance while controlling energy costs. Several opportunities were identified for each facility.

Ken Colburn, Chairman of the Meredith Energy Committee commented, "These building audits are a great first step. They provide us with a lot of insight into how we may be able to save energy and by doing so, save taxpayers money. It is an excellent opportunity for the town to lead by example." The Meredith Energy Committee recently met with Phil Warren, Town Manager, to discuss the audit findings and the energy assessment. "The meeting went well," commented Warren. "Having a knowledgeable Committee that adds focus on energy issues is a great asset. We're already moving forward on some measures, and will consider others in future budgets." MEREDITH ENERGY HANDBOOK

The Meredith Energy Committee is currently working on the "Meredith Energy Handbook". This web-based document will include an estimate of locally generated green house gases as a context for local energy conservation. As a guidance document it will focus on specific actions, technologies, resources available to local property owners and opportunities for greater energy independence. The Committee expects the Handbook to be available later this fall. This project is made possible through a grant funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), Energy Efficiency Conservation Block Grant Program.
